International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (October 13)

This event, developed in 1989 by the United Nations and held each year on October 13, celebrates how those around the world are working to reduce their risk to natural hazards. The theme for 2024 is focused on the role that education can play in protecting and empowering young people for a more resilient future and aligns with the Sendai Framework (read about this framework here). While this day is not entirely focused on water, many natural hazards are water-related (e.g., flooding, severe storms, landslides, droughts). Read more about this day here.
