World Water Day is an annual international day to bring attention to water issues, held on March 22. It was initiated by the United Nations in 1993, to celebrate water and inspire action to address water crises. More recently, World Water Day has been a mechanism to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and Sanitation for All by 2030. This year’s theme of World Water Day is ‘Glacier Preservation. It focuses on the rising rate of glacier melt and the impacts of glacier loss including flooding, droughts, landslides, and sea level rise. Actions to support glacier preservation include reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing meltwater in more sustainable ways. Read more here.
